Şimşek Socks

Workers at Şimşek Çorap in Esenyurt district of Istanbul started a wildcat strike at night on 2 February 2022 due to insufficient wage increases. The workers demanded that their wages be raised to 7,000 TL. On 3 February 2022, the strike resulted in partial gains when the boss agreed to raise wages to 6,500 TL and to give 3,000 TL bonus.
The Şimşek Socks strike was part of a wave of strikes in sock factories in the Beylikdüzü, Arnavutköy, Bayrampaşa, Güngören, İkitelli, Avcılar and Esenyurt districts of Istanbul. In these strikes, the Deriteks trade union contributed in a guiding and solidarity role.
