Migros Warehouse

Workers at Migros' warehouse in Istanbul-Esenyurt started a wildcat strike on 3 February 2022, demanding an additional raise of 4 TL per hour after their wages were raised by 8%. Although the striking workers are members of the Warehouse, Port, Shipyard and Marine Workers' Union (DGD-Sen), the union does not have the authority to conclude collective bargaining agreements in the workplace and the strike did not take place within the scope of collective bargaining. However, DGD-Sen took an active role in the organisation and publicity of the strike, and in organising actions and activities such as boycotts and press statements in support of the strike.
Workers were evicted from the warehouse by a police attack on 8 February and 257 workers' employment contracts were terminated. After this date, the workers added the demand for the reinstatement of the dismissed workers to their demand for an additional raise of 4 TL per hour and started to resist in front of the doors. In addition, the workers called for a boycott of Migros stores and protested in front of the house of Migros Chairman Tuncay Özilhan. After the negotiations, the strike was ended on 20 February 2020, with an agreement on a 325-TL monthly raise for each worker, excluding bonuses, and the reinstatement of 257 dismissed workers.
