Melike Textile

Melike Tekstil workers in Antep started a wildcat strike on 3 February 2022, demanding at least 6000 TL, rejecting the wages set at 5200 TL for 2022. After the boss promised to adjust the wages, the workers suspended the strike for two days and went back to work. The two-day wage deduction made from the workers‘ salaries for the days they did not work due to snowfalls was deposited into the workers’ accounts after the strike. Later, the workers, who found the boss's offer of 5,600 TL salary + 300 TL continuity premium insufficient, started a second wildcat strike on 10 February, but the second strike was short-lived and the workers, whose demands for an additional increase were not accepted, returned to work. The Melike Tekstil strike was part of the wave of strikes that took place in Antep in 2022, mainly in the ‘Weaving, garment and leather’ sector.
