Rifis Machine

Wildcat strike at the Rifis Makina factory in Kartal, Istanbul, is based on the fact that the majority of the workers at the workplace are members of Birleşik Metal-İş. After the union achieved the majority in the workplace, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security issued an authorisation determination. However, the boss objected to the authorisation of the union by not starting collective bargaining negotiations and dismissed 8 workers.
Thereupon, on 3 January 2022, the 8 workers who were fired started a protest at the entrance of the workplace, while the workers inside the factory stopped production and went on a wildcat strike. The boss tried to evict the workers from the factory, but the workers resisted against this and did not leave the factory. The workers demanded the authorisation of Birleşik Metal-İş and the reinstatement of the dismissed workers. Although there is no information in the press and social media channels about how long the wildcat strike continued, the actions of 8 fired workers at the entrance of the workplace continued until 13 January. However, the strike and the actions of the fired workers at the entrance of the workplace ended without any gains.
