Öztaş Socks

Öztaş Socks workers in Esenyurt, Istanbul, rejected the boss's 35% raise offer and started a wildcat strike on 9 February 2022 by stopping production during the night shift, demanding a 70% raise. The factory manager threatened that the workers would be evicted from the factory by the police for not signing the report presented to them and that the costs incurred would be deducted from the striking workers. Afterwards, almost all of the night shift workers were fired without compensation. The number of sacked workers exceeded 70. After the dismissals, a wildcat strike started in all three shifts. Workers coming off the morning shift joined the strike by joining the dismissed workers. The strike ended on 11 February with an increase in net wages from 5400 TL to 6500 TL and the boss's acceptance of the reinstatement of the dismissed workers.
The Öztaş Socks strike was part of a wave of strikes in sock factories in Beylikdüzü, Arnavutköy, Bayrampaşa, Güngören, İkitelli, Avcılar and Esenyurt districts of Istanbul. In these strikes, the Deriteks trade union has contributed at the level of guidance and solidarity.
