General Strike of Public Employees (January 2023)

Public sector workers who are members of unions affiliated with the Public Sector Confederations Platform staged a one-day wildcat strike across Turkey on January 13, 2023, to protest a 30 percent wage increase for 2023.

As far as we can determine, public employees participated in the strike in at least 16 cities, including Ankara, Aydın, Bursa, Denizli, Eskişehir, Hatay, Isparta, Istanbul, Karaman, Kırklareli, Kocaeli, Manisa, Maraş, Muğla, Ordu, and Samsun, at public workplaces in the sectors of Office, Banking, and Insurance Services; Education and Science Services; Health and Social Services; and Culture and Arts Services.
