Farplas

Workers at the Farplas factory in Gebze Automotive Supply Industry Specialised Organised Industrial Zone (TOSB), which manufactures automobile plastic parts, started a wildcat strike by stopping production on 19 January 2022 because the wages announced were far below their expectations. The main demands of the workers were the improvement of wages and social rights, 100 per cent increase in bonuses and raises, and 200 per cent increase in weekend shifts. On 20 January, after the meeting, the workers promised 4 bonuses and no dismissals, gave the boss one week for their other demands and ended the strike.
Later on, in the factory, where there are 22 subcontracted companies in different business lines, permanent workers became members of Birleşik Metal-İş, while some others became members of Limter-İş and Lastik-İş unions. On 24 June, Birleşik Metal-İş announced that it had obtained the majority required for authorisation at the workplace. However, the company started layoffs on 25 June. Nearly 100 dismissed workers started a resistance at the entrance of the factory on the morning of 26 January, while the workers who continued to work started a partial wilcat strike by stopping production and held a march inside the factory.
On the night of 30 January to 31 January, workers occupied the factory and completely stopped production to demand the reinstatement of their laid-off colleagues. After this action, the laid-off workers gathered in front of the factory for solidarity. On the night of 31 January, the police raided the factory to suppress the strike. The workers took to the roof of the factory and resisted for a long time, but the occupation and the wildcat strike ended when 200 workers were forcibly removed from the factory and detained in an operation in the morning.
