Smart Solar

Workers at the Smart Solar factory in Gebze, Kocaeli, who are members of the Birleşik Metal-İş union and constitute the majority, staged a wildcat strike by stopping production and locking themselves in the factory after the union representative was fired. The occupation and wildcat strike started with 250 workers on the night between June 23rd and June 24th and continued with the participation of 50 more workers who came for the morning shift. The occupation and strike ended on June 25, after the union representative was reinstated, and the workers were promised that written reports, verbal pressure and compulsory overtime work would end, and that the union would be considered the primary interlocutor for problems experienced by workers in the factory.
