General Strike of Public Employees (December 2023)

While budget discussions continued in Parliament, public sector employees who are members of unions affiliated with the Birleşik Kamu-İş confederation staged a wildcat strike on December 19, 2025, demanding a decent standard of living and fair wages.

The strike took place in public workplaces in the following sectors: Office, Banking and Insurance Services, Education, Teaching and Science Services, Energy, Industry and Mining Services, Health and Social Services, Agriculture and Forestry Services, Transportation Services, and Local Government Services.

As far as we can ascertain, the strike took place in Afyon, Ankara, Antalya, Aydın, Balıkesir, Burdur, Çanakkale, Çankırı, Çorum, Denizli, Elazığ, Eskişehir, Hatay, İstanbul, İzmir, Karaman, Kastamonu, Kırşehir, Malatya, Manisa, Mersin, Muğla, Rize, Sinop, Sivas, Tekirdağ, and Trabzon, with public sector employees in at least 27 cities participating.
